Grow your own breast implants
Women may no longer have to opt for silicone or saline implants when they want to give their bust a boost with new stem cell technology that allows patients to grow their own breast implants.
Japanese scientific teams have managed to harvest stem cells from women's fat and manipulated them to grow into breast tissue, reports ThisIsLondon.
The Japanese scientific teams predicted that such technology could be standard procedure in Britain in less than five years.
Dr Kotaro Yoshimura, from the University of Tokyo, explained the new technique was first piloted in 2004 and his team have conducted successful tests on 38 women since then.
He said: "I believe that within five years my procedure will be available as plastic surgery and that it will prove very popular."
By implanting the stem cells, the idea is to stimulate the formation of new fat cells and encourage blood vessels to grow new breast tissue.
Although in tests the technique has so far only been able to boost breast size by up to a half, Dr Yoshimura said the approach gives more natural results and will appeal to those women worried about the leaking of silicone implants.
