Consider options before undertaking surgery abroad
Patients who look to undertake cosmetic surgery abroad should consider all the options fully before undergoing any procedures, according to a new report.
A study by the Aesthetic Society has found that while there are a number of excellent cosmetic surgeons located around the world, there are a number of factors to consider before having an operation.
Before boarding the plane the study recommends passengers evaluate the risks of a long flight and also any increased risk of DVT.
Other areas for consideration include assessing the level of the surgeon's training and whether they are accredited by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
The report states: "Carefully consider the total costs involved with having surgery abroad, including the additional time off work required for travel and recovery, the costs of air travel and extended stays abroad, potential costs if surgery revisions are needed subsequently, and unanticipated expenses if complications occur.
"Cosmetic surgery abroad can be a safe experience with excellent outcomes. However we strongly recommend that you do your homework in advance and be fully comfortable with the answers to the above questions before making any commitment of either time or money."
